Aco Šopov : The Wind Carries Beautiful Weather, Skopje, 1957

“Without yielding to emotion, this latest poetry collection by Aco Šopov embodies emotion in every one of its verses; without claiming to be philosophical, it abounds in philosophical kernels, imbued with a melancholic irony and an unusual, slightly dark humor, entirely unfamiliar to our poetry,” writes Slavko Janevski on the book’s inner cover, before concluding: “The poetry in this collection says everything it has to say, and each poem stands as a complete entity, clear in meaning even when filled with metaphors and complex poetic figures, conveying a symbolism that awakens all of the reader’s senses.”

On these unprecedented aspects that this collection brings to Macedonian poetry, Georgi Stardelov said at its presentation in 1957: "Tonight, we are confronted with a poetic phenomenon that is unique in our literature: the phenomenon of Aco Šopov. When I say 'unique', I mean this: it is exceptional—I would even say ontologically exceptional—in contemporary Macedonian literature to encounter such unwavering fidelity of a poet to himself, to immediately recognize the territory of his poetic universe and, in doing so, to be able to say: it is this ground, and no other, that this poet plows; it is here that his poetic kingdom unfolds; it is here that he has shaped his poetic anatomy, and it is only here—and nowhere else—that he can exist.
This deliberate restriction to a concretely defined sphere of life—which, in my view, is of essential importance—has, until recently, been interpreted in our contemporary literature as a form of poetic blindness, as a kind of short-sightedness of poetic discernment. Yet it is precisely within this 'limitation' that the authenticity of the poetic voice resides, and the being of the poet is revealed."
