Michael Spiroff is a Canadian composer born in Toronto to a family of Macedonian immigrants. This dual cultural heritage has shaped his artistic voice, leading him to create a contemporary repertoire open to a wide range of influences, from jazz to folk traditions-particularly those of his ancestral homeland.<\/p>\n

Like most of the artists featured by the Lyric Mill, he wears many hats: composer, music director, pianist, and educator. He also plays the guitar.<\/p>\n

After graduating in 2018 from the prestigious Mannes School of Music in New York, he went on to pursue a Master’s degree at McGill University in Montreal. His final project, completed under the supervision of Brian Cherney, took the form of a chamber opera recounting the journey of a Macedonian family immigrating to Canada at the beginning of the twentieth century.<\/p>\n

Michael has also drawn inspiration from the poetry of Aco \u0160opov, “the soul of the Moulin lyrique<\/a>.” His recital “Zazoruva” (Dawn) received its world premiere on February 13 and 14, 2025, at the Heliconian Hall in Toronto. As part of the Lyric Mill’s 2026 season, he performs his own piano works in the recital “Wanderings on Ivory and Ebony” (Program in French)<\/a><\/p>\n
